poster design

Here is a selection of theater and event posters that includes much of my recent design work. They are arranged in reverse chronological order, most recent to least, and span roughly three years, 2005 to the present. Click on any image to see a larger version. (For more information on many of these productions, see the theater section of this site.)

logo/identity design

Here you can find branding, logo, and identity designs -- any projects relating to the overall look, feel, or personal stamp of various companies, events, or businesses.

Special Olympics Virginia
An original logo for the SOVA skiing championships, plus corresponding t-shirt and event program designs, all created during the first annual Charlottesville Design Marathon.

Keith Cellars
Two separate designs for a limited run of Virginia wine by the independent winemaker, Keith Cellars. The Scottish imagery comes from the heritage of the Keith family.

brochure/layout design

Here you can find some examples of my text and page layout work, such as brochures, newsletters, programs, and more.

Live Arts
Two projects: first, the front and back of an accordion-fold brochure for the 2009/2010 performance season at Live Arts in Charlottesville, Virginia. Next, an ad for same published in C-Ville Weekly.

Four County Players
A die-cut, two-sided brochure for the 2009-2010 season at Four County Players in Barboursville, Virginia.

Ash Lawn Opera
A foldout bro-
chure for the 2006 season of the Ash Lawn Opera Festival in Charlottes-
ville, Virginia.

t-shirt design

A fun spin on my usual design work. These four designs were professionally printed, something I can easily help you arrange if you're interested in commissioning a design from me. I also do hand screen-printing, a cheap, fun option for making a smaller quantity of shirts in a simple color range. Want a custom screen-printed shirt? Email me! Meanwhile, here are a few examples: [1] / [2] / [3].

But wait! There's more! Check out ShakesGear, my newest venture in the combined realms of fashion and English major geekiness. If you're a fan of the bard, go grab yourself a shirt that says so. ShakesGear provides a variety of original designs all perfect for the devoted Bard Lover.

As You Like It
A t-shirt design for the summer 2008 production of As You Like It by Virginia's Four County Players.

Twelfth Night
A t-shirt design for the summer 2007 production of Twelfth Night by Virginia's Four County Players.

YCTC 2005
A t-shirt design for the American Shakespeare Center's Young Company Theater Camp.

YCTC 2004
Another design for the ASC's Young Company Theater Camp, a summer Shakespeare program for teens.

book design & art pieces

In this work I combine fine art (painting, illustration, letter-press, bookmaking) and design.

The Stolen Child (15x20in / limited edition)
I designed and illustrated this poster and printed it by traditional letter-press. The illustrations were cut into aluminum plates and set alongside the type. The poem is "The Stolen Child" by W. B. Yeats. FOR SALE!
$55 unframed, $80 framed.
Email me if you're interested in purchasing one!

A Brief for the Defense
This is an artist's book of a poem by Jack Gilbert. The pages and inside cover are hand-painted and all the text is letter-press printed. The book is hand-bound and was created in an edition of 3.

This Room Is Full of Rooftops!
This set of four-books-in-one is a visual version of This Room Is Full of Rooftops! (Memory Plays), an original show by the Control Group Experimental Theater Ensemble. The books are designed using typography alone, as an attempt to capture the play's spirit in print. Winner of the Lohmann Prize.
